A Buttercream Dream

A Buttercream Dream

Wedding Journals | With Mr & Mrs Pickles

When it came to curating the wedding day, Mr & Mrs Pickles brought a clear creative vision - elegant, timeless, refined, and deeply personal. With seven bridesmaids dressed in THIRD FORM’s Visions Lace Buttercream dress, the celebration was a perfect blend of style, sentiment and individuality. Cindy Pickles shares the full story below - from serendipitous beginnings to a ceremony steeped in nostalgia, and every detail in between.

The Story So Far

How did you and your partner meet?
Matt and I met through a string of happy coincidences. I was looking for a new share house and, despite initially turning down a Facebook tag, I ended up meeting a group of future housemates who instantly clicked. One night, a flatmate asked if a friend could join us for dinner - “a friend of a friend of a friend’s son who just moved to Brisbane.” That friend was Matt. He walked through our front door that night, into my life and would never exit...The best dinner I would ever agree to.

Can you tell us a little about the proposal?
Matt proposed on November 28th on the sun-kissed rocks of Chowder Bay after a meandering coastal walk. After I said yes (between many happy tears), he whisked me to lunch at Ripples, followed by a visit to Sarah & Sebastian in Mosman where we each chose matching soldered bracelets. We ended the day with surprise celebratory drinks at the Lavender Bay apartment, surrounded by friends and family.

Was the proposal a surpirse?
I had a feeling it was coming, but the timing caught me completely off guard - He managed to keep me on my toes and made the moment feel entirely spontaneous, which made it all the more special.

Planning & Style

Did you have a theme or vision from the start?
From the beginning, I envisioned a wedding that felt timeless and refined and was a nod to the 90s. The day was built around calla lilies en masse, oyster shuckers, luxe linens and a live jazz band to set the tone. I wanted the day to unfold in four distinct moments: ceremony, garden party, grand entrance, and the reception - each moment designed to transport and celebrate our guests and evoke a sense of occasion.

How did you go about curating the style of the day?
I’m a highly visual person, so curating the style became something of a passion project for both myself and Matt. I collected references over time mostly from Instagram and Pinterest. I built mini moodboards for each part of the day and compiled them in an Excel spreadsheet - it was about creating harmony across every visual touchpoint, from florals to fashion to ambient lighting.

What was the journey like finding your dress - and what did you end up choosing?
Finding the dress was morechallenging than I expected. As someone just over 5'1", I found most off-the-rack dresses overwhelmd my frame. I ended up working with the deisgner Brad from Darb Bridal Couture in Brisbane to design two custom gowns - one for the ceremony, one for the reception. It was a true couture experience: selecting fabrics, shaping silhouettes, and flying up from Sydney for fittings. But it was entirely worth it each gown was unique, deeply personal, and impeccably crafted.

We also had a custom suit and shoes made for Matt from BELANCÈ - an elevated black-tie suit just for him. It made the experience even more special for him in the lead up.

How did you come across THIRD FORM?
I’d been familiar with THIRD FORM for a while - the pieces kept appearing in my feed and always caught my eye.

What made you choose the Buttercream Visions Lace Dresses for your Bridesmaids?
I knew I wanted the girls in cream - something cohesive and elevated. With 7 bridesmaids we originally considered different dresses to showcase their personalites, but nothing quite worked. Then my maid of honour (who works in fashion) ordered a sample of the Visions Lace dress. The moment she put it on, we knew. The quality of the fabric, the flattering cut, the understated yet elevated aesthetic it was everything we had been searching for and a perfect fit for the aesthetic of the wedding. Even our bridesmaid who was seven months pregnant wore it beautifully. I finished their look with pearl earrings, tennis bracelets, Alias Mae white wedge heels and to show their personalities they all selected their own preferred hairstyle to create a bit of brevity in the styling.

How did your bridesmaids feel about the dresses?
Every one of the girls felt incredibly confident in the Visions buttercream lace maxi. The soft quality fabric and built in bust meant the dress was supportive and made perfectly for all different women’s body shapes and types. I couldn’t have dreamt up a better dress for the girls - once we found the lace maxi the rest of their looks were built from there.

On The Visions Lace Buttercream Dress:

"It's nearly unheard of for one dress to work for 7 girls of all different shapes and sizes. It was one of the best decisions of the wedding - they looked utterly angelic."

The Big Day

Where did you get married and what drew you to that location?
The ceremony was at my old school chapel - nostalgic and romantic. The reception was at The Calile Hotel in Brisbane, a place that meant a lot to us before we moved to Sydney. The contrast of old-world charm and modern elegance felt perfect.

What was the morning like?
Peaceful, emotional, and full of joy. We got ready in The Calile suite - me, my seven bridesmaids, my mum, MIL, and sisters-in-law - all in personalised silk pyjamas. I wanted a calm space, and our glam team brought an energy I didn’t realise I needed.

What was the flavour of your cake - and was it a joint decision?
Raspberry white chocolate - a clear winner during a tasting night with friends.

How did you come across THIRD FORM?
I’d been familiar with THIRD FORM for a while - the pieces kept appearing in my feed and always caught my eye.

What was your first dance song - and who chose it?
“I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. We both brought it up and couldn’t believe we had this A-ha moment about the song. It was such a great choice, an oldie but goody. A classic everyone knew so by the end we had all our family and friends up singing around us - it was the most incredible memory.

What Best adice you received before the big day?
Stay by each other's side and take deliberate moments to pause. The day really does fly by, but we made a point to stop, look around, and take it all in - the details, the guests, the atmosphere. After eight months of planning, it was so important to experience and appreciate the magic we created.

For Future Brides

What advice would you give to brides starting their planning journey?
Trust yout gut and own your vision from the start, unapologetically. Stay aligned with your partner and focus on how your guests will feel. We wanted to create a day that our guests not only visually loved we created an atmosphere and focused on how our guests would feel. Don’t be afraid to challenge the norm - this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Select a team of vendors who truly understand your style. Surround yourself with a dream team people who not only get it, but get your vision. One of the most inspiring collaborators for us was our photographer, Callan Robison. His aesthetic, his energy, and his eye were all such strong creative anchors throughout our planning.

Tips on choosing a dress - and dressing your bridal party?
When it comes to finding your dress, don’t get swept up in trends or the noise of Instagram. Focus on what feels like you. Don’t be afraid to go against the grain whether that means something unexpected or something beautifully simple and try everything. Visit the boutiques you hadn’t considered, explore silhouettes you might have ruled out. You're not in as much of a rush as the industry might have you believe. As for bridesmaids, choose a look that elevates the group but doesn't overshadow their individuality. The Visions Lace Buttercream dress was perfect for us: high quality, timeless, flattering on everyone and in complete harmony with the day.

One thing you're glad you didn't skip or cut corners on?
Hands down the in-between moments: the jazz band, projection wall, personalised details like bar menus and thank you notes. Every touch layered meaning and mood. Guests still talk about them.

And one thing you could have skipped?
NOTHING – I really wouldn’t take any of the details back. I kept reminding myself this is a once in a lifetime experience and I didn’t want to regret holding back.
